Summary: Post DH AU- Settling down, happy families, warm Christmases and sappy anniversaries – it all sounds a bit beyond the likes of Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy.

Part One

Draco Malfoy best liked to wake in the winter just after noon, to the sound of Ferguson's Fourth (a delightful wizarding piece his mother used to play for him on the piano forte) with a cup of hot wine at his bedside. He'd then wash, dress in warm robes and wander through gardens dusted with snow, glancing over the Prophet or devouring Wolsey's latest political satire.

Lunch would be served at about four, eaten wherever he liked and accompanied with copious amounts of spiced nettle wine. By early evening he would dress himself in the latest obscenely priced robes he'd sent for and entertain, or be entertained, until the early hours. Good food, more wine, and delightful company. Old friends introduced him to new ones and, as Draco discovered, the families beyond the staunchly traditionalist circle the Malfoys had always associated with were a raucous, friendly bunch.

His life was, one might observe, almost blessed. Of course, such an uncomplicated existence almost begged for a disruption – as Draco found out when, one morning, a tearful young witch stood shivering at his gate.

"You let her wait outside?!" he demanded. Flossy quailed, wringing her hands, and Draco restrained himself from ordering her to stand with her head in the snow. Damnable HEEA (House Elf Emancipation Act, 1999) made disciplining the staff nearly impossible. "Show her to the parlor."

He performed a few grooming spells and apparated into his favourite seat of the parlor – by the window overlooking the wizarding village of Ulptia, a faint outline disappearing into the folds of the countryside. He was just contemplating whether he might go flying before dinner at the Lord Chamberlain's house when the young woman Flossy had been stuttering about walked into the room. Draco recognised her as the girl from the ball in Hanover, the scrumptious Irish imp whom he'd … oh, he thought faintly, I do hope that's not what this is about.

"Mr. Malfoy," she said, her chin already wobbling. Draco stood and crossed the room, the right sort of smile fixed on his face. He felt quite odd – something like that wrenching, swirling feeling of traveling by Floo.

"Draco," he corrected. "It's lovely to see you again …" he paused, reaching for her name but finding an utter blank. His heart was pounding, he realised grimly.

"Astoria," she supplied, her eyes brimming with tears. Draco felt blind panic start to set in – he wasn't good with perfectly normal women in the daylight hours, let alone weepy ones.

"Are you alright?" he asked.

"I'm expecting!" she cried.

Draco blinked. And after a moment he was composed enough to ask, very carefully, "Expecting what, exactly?"

"Harry, its one evening," Hermione pleaded, "and I couldn't buy the publicity you'd draw to the benefit just by turning up!"

"SPEW needs you, Harry," Ron said gravely, obviously suppressing a grin.

"It's not just for the house elves! And stop helping," Hermione snapped. Harry sighed, looking up over the stack of reports he had yet to read through.

"It's not that I don't want to come …"

"It is," Ron interjected. He was clearly enjoying the fact that Hermione had banned him from all of her benefits since his infamous run in with a centaur he felt was getting 'too hands-y'.

"It's just that I have so much paperwork to get finished before Christmas and I haven't even begun to review the investigation into Yaxley …"

"Ginny isn't coming," Hermione said suddenly. Harry gaped at her, and even Ron looked aghast at her lack of tact. She grimaced, setting down her tea cup.

"I'm sorry, that was disgusting of me, being so thoughtless," her voice wavered dangerously and Ron's eyes widened in horror.

"No, no, no!" Harry said quickly, "It's not a problem – I mean, wait, I mean that wasn't thoughtless, you were just telling me a relevant fact."

"To try and convince you to let me use you as some sort of publicity puppet," she continued, sniffling. Ron waved his hands silently, a flapping plea for Harry to fix it!

"Rubbish, I'd love to come! I … you were right; I was only making excuses because I thought Ginny was going, and things would be, you know, awkward. So … thanks for clearing that up. What time do I need to be there?"

Hermione looked up with a watery smile and after an "Oh, Harry," and a good hug (which in itself was a task as she was so big it was hard for her to reach over the table) she was back to her normal self. Ron's head thumped to the table in relief. Pregnant Hermione was wonderful, but also, terrifying.

"Right, we'll leave you to your work, then. See you on Friday!" she said, kissing Harry's cheek fondly before waddling towards the front door.

"Lovely girl. Shame about the fact that she's gone absolutely mad," Ron whispered once she was out of earshot.

"You'll survive, mate," Harry laughed.

"You don't have to drive with her! Every ten seconds she needs to stop and find a bathroom. Not allowed to Floo or apparate, and when we tried a portkey she … well. It wasn't pleasant. God, I can't wait 'til little Berthilda's born …"

"We're not calling her that!" Hermione shrieked from garden. Ron flinched as Harry stared after her in wonder.

"How did she …"

"Absolutely. Mad."
